In the last issue, we had announced that we will no longer be writing an editorial, as so many of them weren’t actual editorials!! But now we have a decision to make. What should we do instead of an editorial? We’ve come up with a few different concepts including leaving the page for more great advertisers, adding another article, including recipes and remedies from long ago, and other thoughts as well. Over the next few issues, I’ll be trying out some new ideas, and ask you to let us know what you think – send us an email to thewaybacktimes@gmail.com
Our first idea is vintage recipes, from parents, grandparents, great grandparents and even further back. Would you like to see tried and true recipes that don’t mention gluten? Here’s one of my favourite old recipes with no calorie count or macros included.

Cinnamon Rolls (1 dozen)
1/3 portion basic sweet dough 1 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter 2 teaspoons cinnamon
When basic dough is light, punch down and let rest 10 minutes. In an 8” square pan, combine brown sugar, butter and syrup. Heat until brown sugar is melted. Remove from heat and mix part of the syrup with sugar & cinnamon to make a paste.

Roll dough out thinly into a rectangle and spread with the sugar paste. Roll up like a jelly roll and cut in 1/2” slices. Arrange slices in baking pan on top of remaining syrup and let rise for 30 minutes. Bake in a preheated 375⁰ oven for 25 to 20 minutes. Immediately turn rolls out onto a plate to cool. Icing optional!
My favourite part of this recipe was cleaning out the bottom of the pan after the cinnamon rolls were put on the plate. Four of us kids would fight over who got the warm melted brown sugar, butter, corn syrup mixture. Yum!!
Stay tuned over the next few issues for other concepts and let us know your thoughts. We’ll keep trying new ideas until we find the perfect addition to The Wayback Times.
