PORT PERRY Antique, Vintage & Collectible Show October 2019

On Oct. 5 and 6, 2019, the Scugog Community Recreation Center was host to the annual Port Perry fall antique and collectible show.

This show switched back to a two day event and this proved to be in the best interest of the 28 dealers  who participated.  Residents of  Port Perry and surrounding area always seem to purchase quality antique and collectible items found at this show. Each dealer  had at least two or three unique, highly collectible items in their booth and these items  draw the discerning collector to these smaller shows that set up in Ontario.

Besides the highly collectible items were a myriad of interesting and functional pieces available in each of the 28 booths. From the writer’s perspective it seems that the younger patrons look for items that are functional and useful or, that can be re-purposed into something functional. However, there are plenty of customers who still want items that have elegance and class and these can be seen in some of the beautiful  glassware, lighting, jewelery and silverware seen that was available.
During a lull in the sale a dealer brought the latest copy of Country Living to my attention and in this issue was an article suggesting that “brown” furniture is coming back into style in the United States. Something to consider before you want to chalk paint that nice oak, mahogany, or walnut hutch or sideboard!  As antique dealers,  part of the challenge is to stay in tune with what the buying public are seeking for their new homes or for redecorating.

The show was definitely a success apparent both from the strong dealer sales and from multiple positive comments from a large number of people attending the event.
