- Antique Shows
-
- 1. Be the first in line for a show. The early bird
does get the worm when it comes to finding and buying sought-after
antiques and collectibles
2. Don't congregate in front of a table to chat. Time
is money and if you block access to table displays for chats,
customers can be lost
3. Handle items with care. Antiques and collectibles
on display at shows are generally more fragile and valuable than
at flea markets.
4. Appreciate the pricing of show dealers. It takes
time and money to assemble a quality show and prices set by dealers
reflect the extra effort
5. Call ahead to ask if appraisals can be made. The
popularity of the Antiques Roadshow tours have made appraisals
at local shows popular
6. Give show dealers your Want List. Most show exhibitors
are full-time dealers with stores and will keep your requests
in mind
7. Haggle, but don't insult exhibitors. Exhibitors
will accept less than the sticker price, usually about 10%, and
with multiple purchases
8. Ask questions, but keep chats to a minimum. Show
people are among the friendliest you will find, but show time
is primarily their business time
9. Small car, big item in mind? Arrangements can usually
be made with an exhibitor to deliver those larger pieces of antique
furniture you fancy
10. Tune in often to The Wayback Times show calendar.
